ECA is partnering with Sylvan Learning Systems to provide individualized foundational education. Students who arrive at ECHS more than one grade level below average in reading and / or mathematics receive individualized tutoring. Through Sylvan Online, students benefit from real-time, interactive tutoring at a 2:1 student-to-teacher ratio.
On average, in 36 hours of instruction, Sylvan Online students achieve an academic growth of 1.7 years in reading, and 2.2 years in math. Sylvan Online tutoring meets 12 established standards of supplemental education and has been accredited by The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA).
Each student begins the program by completing a diagnostic assessment math and reading. Based on assessment results and the standards set forth in our early college aligned curriculum, Sylvan creates and individualized program.
Students requiring instruction in reading will complete 36-hours of instruction in the Sylvan Academic Reading (SAR) program, focused on their gaps in word analysis, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Students requiring instruction in math will complete 36-hours of instruction in the Sylvan Math Essentials (SME) program. This program will focus on traditional pre-algebra skills (fractions, decimals, percentages, integers, algebraic reasoning, etc). At the end of their initial programs, students will take progress assessments showing their growth and identifying remaining gaps.
