What is an Early College of Arvada?

Arvada, CO: Early College of Arvada announced today that its inaugural class of ninth- and tenth-grade students performed well above the state average in reading and writing on the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP). ECA students scored on par with students statewide in ninth- and tenth-grade mathematics.
On the state’s tenth grade reading test, 93 percent of ECA students scored “proficient” or “advanced.” The state
average on the same test is a distant 69 percent. ECA ninth-graders performed nearly as well, with 83 percent scoring proficient or advanced on the ninth grade reading test. Another bright spot occurred in tenth-grade writing, with 79 percent of ECA students scoring proficient or advanced, exceeding the state average by 30 percentage points.

On the state math tests, ECA ninth-graders scored just off the state average by 5 percent, registering 30 percent as proficient or advanced. Tenth graders likewise missed the state average by a slim margin, with 28 percent scoring proficient or advanced, compared to the state average of 30 percent.

Finally, ECA tenth-graders exceeded the state average on the state science test by 12 percentage points, with 62
percent scoring proficient or advanced.

According to school director Sarah Brock, “We are thrilled with the results we see so far. Our emphasis on rigorous and relevant curriculum has shown that students can meet high expectations. We are grateful to students, parents, and staff who all have worked together to make ECA a beacon of high academic performance in the northwest metro area.”
