Early college high schools combine the last two years of high school and the first two years of college into a seamless experience that eases students into college as they are ready. Students graduate with both a high school diploma and up to sixty transferable credits – the equivalent of two years of study.
Across the nation, early college high schools are not only closing the graduation gap, but are also placing students into college with high degrees of success. Nearly ninety percent of early college high school students earn passing grades in college level coursework and overall hold higher grade point averages than their older college peers.
Charter schools are public schools created and managed by members of the community, under a contract with the state. ECHS at Arvada operates under contract from the Clorado Charter School Institute.
Charter schools are free public schools. There is no tuition charged. Enrollment is open to all students, subject to available spaces. As public schools, charter schools are also required to adhere to all public school laws, accountability measures, and the historic role public schools have played in promoting education in a democratic and pluralistic society.
More information about Colorado charter schools can be found at the Colorado League of Charter Schools Website.
ECHS does not charge tuition or student fees for high school or college courses. This means that students who are academically qualified can earn up to two years of college credit for free.
Early College High School can save the average family approximately $30,000 in future college costs by offering two years of tuition-free college credit.
The Excel DifferenceThe Excel program at ECHS is designed as an alternative pathway for students who have a desire to succeed in high school and go on to college.
